Dubai Supreme Council of Energy promotes Emirates Energy Awards in Saudi Arabia

December 12, 2014

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – 12 December 2014

The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy held a conference in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to promote the second Emirates Energy Award (EEA) 2014-15. The EEA is organised under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai to recognise the efforts and practices of organisations and individuals in energy and create a stimulating and integrated environment that promotes excellence and sustainability in this important field.

The Supreme Council of Energy’s delegation included Nasser Al Shaiba, Director of Environment, Health and Safety at the Supreme Council of Energy, Taher Diab, Secretary General of the EEA, and Omar Al Qurashi, Vice Chairman of Marketing and Events at the EEA. The conference was attended by experts, specialists, representatives of energy companies, and the media.

The conference in Saudi Arabia is part of the Supreme Council of Energy’s roadshow in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) to promote the EEA and spread awareness about its objectives, categories, and application procedure. It also encourages government and private organisations to participate in the award, which is the first of its kind in the region.

“The Emirates Energy Award increases awareness among Arab communities about the need to enhance energy efficiency and increase the reliability of clean and renewable energy resources, and decrease dependence on traditional energy. The EEA is an incentive for innovation and creative ideas. It also provides a stimulating environment that adopts the best international practices in managing and rationalising energy to enhance the sustainability of natural resources. It also highlights the achievements of organisations and individuals in the Middle East and North Africa,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Supreme Council of Energy and President of the EEA.

“The Middle East and North Africa offers strong investment opportunities in traditional and renewable energy, especially solar power. We in turn encourage organisations and individuals to implement clean and renewable energy projects that take into account the environment to build a green and sustainable economy and strengthen the foundations of sustainable development in the region,” said HE Ahmed Butti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy.

Deadline for EEA applications is the end of January 2015. The Supreme Council of Energy will honour the winners in October 2015 in conjunction with World Energy Day.
